Dual career? One parent drops the kid off at day care early enough to give PLENTY of time to get to work. The other has already been at work for a while and leaves work PLENTY early enough to pick the kid up in the afternooon. Even when traffic is bad.

What is more of a puzzle is how single parents handle it.

For us, it meant trade-offs. The typical LBYM strategies like driving and maintaining older cars, bring lunch to work and avoiding debt.

Right after our second child was born, DW talked about transitioning to a SAHM. So we moved from our rental home to a small home in the country with a 45 minute commute into North Dallas for me. Everything was really inexpensive and included about an acre of land that butted up against miles of corp of engineer land. We lived thre for 10 years and was the main reason we could live on one income and still put money away for FIRE.
