Does the "wash sale rule" as applicable to stock purchases also follow Options contracts? My example would be that I purchase XYZ Calls and they expire worthless so within 30 days of the expiration I purchase Calls of the same XYZ, is this a "wash sale"?

When does the short/long term gains date start with Options? If I buy a Call and sell the contract back within a year then I'm assuming that this is a short term gain? If I exercise the same contract after say 2 months and hold the stock from the exercise for another 10 months for a total of 1 year will this be considered a long term gain assuming a gain on the stock?
