I was invested in a company called Metamor Technology in 1999 part owned and founded by a person I knew. It was an ok investment, nothing stellar, but at the time I did not know how to read financials. Then, it got taken over by a company called PSINET which was supposed to be an ISP. Actually it was a money vacuum cleaner and the whole 36,000 investment was lost. The lesson I learned is to really really look hard at who is buying out your stock and swapping you for another stock. Buy and hold does not work there or at least you have to treat a buyout as different from holding.
