We all agree, the social security program that has been such a boon for the person of a moderate income will be an albatross for our children and grandchildren. How do we fix it? I do not know, but I can list several principles that I will use to evaluate proposed fixes. Two of these are as follows:

1. I do not want the Federal government managing a stock portfolio. That is one area that is too ripe for "politically correct, socially responsible investing." My ideas of the companies off limits for my investments will most likely not be the ideas of someone with a different political philosophy.

2. I prefer a solution that allows for greater individual responsibility over one that promises universal care from our great father in Washington.

I hope the political consensus will build to pass legislation for an acceptable solution. In the mean time, I plan to provide for my own retirement without social security. If I do receive any return on my FICA taxes, I plan to save it so that my children will have something to live on after their earnings are confiscated to pay the social security benefits promised today's workers.
