I was a great fan of Jack Cade's ledgers. I'm not nearly smart enough to duplicate them, but I have developed a spreadsheet technique which can give some idea of what's working recently if you traded weekly. It uses the option pricing macro developed by William Lipp a couple of years ago which can download stock prices from the current day's close. It works like this: Every weekend I take Fireball's weekly stock list and Kaellner's exponential growth list and "buy" the top 3, 5, or 10 stocks on each screen using the Friday closing prices, fractional shares, and ignoring commissions and spreads. Exponential growth screens only have 3 or 5 stocks. If a screen only picks 7 stocks that week, I will fill the last three positions with cash to get the ten stock screen. One week later at Friday close I sell each screen and use the proceeds to buy the new screen. Any stock which gains or loses more than 10% is checked manually. I find that about half of such stocks had significant errors in their downloaded prices. If the stock gained or lost less than 10%, there is usually no error, or only a small one. While this trading technique cannot be exactly duplicated in real life, it does give an approximation of how the screens are doing if you traded weekly using a FOLIOfn type of investment vehicle.

I made the first "purchases" on Jan 11 when Fireballs published his first big screen listing, so the results are not exactly YTD. After that I sold and bought on Jan 18, 25, Feb 1, 8, 15.

I've included the SPY and QQQ listings in each 3, 5, and 10 stock category for comparison purposes.

I'll continue to publish the results every week if there's any interest.

These results are for the week ending on Feb 15, 2002:
