well, i just finished perusing all 140 postings to this board. (i'm a newbie.) one in particular asked "who supplies the malt and hops" to the big brewers. there was no reply, so i'm wondering, where would i start to try to find the answer? does this question perhaps belong in the "ask a foolish question?" thanks, m.

i would imagine that there are companies that specialize in growing hops and that they sell them to brewers.

as for malt, many brewers run their own malting operations. i'm not sure where they buy the grains, though. some of them can be specialized (well, for making real beer, not that mass produced stuff incorrectly labeled "pilsner").

i'll try giving my uncle a call. he works for large brewery, and maybe he'll know.

of course, one call always call up a local homebrew store. they should know.
