WEll, I'm not sure that Christmas trees need promotion or a more positive image--who doesn't like Christmas trees? I'm even cool with them on public land using public money if they're seasonal-themed rather than explicitly Christian.

Sales of real Christmas trees have been declining, so growers want to create an industry promotion tool. Sort of like Pork: The Other White Meat.

If you read the actual rule, as opposed to repeating what Fox News tells you to think, you can see the industry itself sets the fees, and can decide to end the program if they so choose.

Really doesn't very tragic to me. But if you need Drudge and Rush to filter your news for you, then of course the sky is falling.
