Well, Macr, can't you sell 'once only' material so it can't be reused or copied?

Would you pay $900 for a piece of software you couldn't re-install on a machine (if the hard drive fails) or install on a replacement machine?

They have to find a compromise that prevents wide-spread copying but still allows a) Backup copies b) Re-installing and c) Installing on a second machine [most licenses allow you to install on a second machine, as long as the product isn't used at the same time on both machines]

The activation process generally is supposed to help with this. It hasn't stopped piracy, but I don't think you'll ever stop piracy completely.
