Much depends on how much trading you do. What did you pay in commissions the last 12 months.

Some firms offer free trades in return for a fixed annual fee. They can be the best deal for big traders.

Those paying hundreds of dollars per trade from a full service broker can clearly do better. But I would note that those paying $8 or so should perhaps focus on other issues.

I am reminded of the firm that offered to do trades for you for a dollar less, but then turns out to be a fraud. Ouch!! Was the few bucks you saved worth the risk?
