Well, there is a LOT of fuzzy thinking. IMO those in this discussion should go to the Gates Foundation and agree or disagree but take the approach they advocate, namely is the position they advocate measurable and actionable (what a concept for education revolution). In part IMO that's why Gates is so controvercial on both sides of the political spectrum.

Also his 2013 letter is instructive as he read "The Most Powerful Idea in the World, a brilliant chronicle by William Rosen of the many innovations it took to harness steam power. Among the most important were a new way to measure the energy output of engines and a micrometer dubbed the "Lord Chancellor," able to gauge tiny distances."

That meshes with an approach that anticipates that real progress takes MANY often tiny related discoveries all melded with metrics and data.
