Well, um, there is another angle. Stock holders, who presumably are owners of the corporation, are not liable for the machinations of the company whose stock we own. If "we" who own stocks were liable for the crimes of companies whose stocks we hold, we we own them? And the same goes for limited partners in partnerships though general partners can be liable.

Gun manufacturers got a law passed so that they are not liable for what is done with the guns they sell.
