We've been slowly replacing these things with the extra fun money and it's been a great daily reminder of progress. Now I use my wonderful, ergonomic OXO can opener, and I feel rewarded for the hard work of paying down all that debt. I earned that nice can opener, and didn't go into debt to buy it. In many ways, using the money to make tangible improvements to the actions you take every day is better than spending money on an ephemeral entertainment event, like a meal out.

Jthrelheld, Thanks for you words, I hope that I will have your strength to keep control of spending. I certainly hope that I have learned that debt like this could have been avoided if we would spread things out and save and pay for them instead of putting them on plastic. I have done tons of remodeling in our house over the years. I know that I could have done them much cheaper, better and without the stupid debt. If I would have come up with a simple spend plan. Me and DW would probably even enjoy it more knowing that its ours and we did not have to pay finance charges, late fees, overdrafts for it.
