I be thinkin' of devouring a whole BBQ'd rotisserie chicken with some mashed spuds and chicken gravy. I might eat some raw veggies, perhaps celery with all natch p-nut butter. burp. fart.

Bob Evans has some great real mashed spuds in the dairy section if you don't feel like peeling potatoes. Not the powered kind, made from real potatoes. (Did I spell that right?) Just nuke em. Delish!

What's the best store-bought chicken gravy? I'd rather make a roux and use the chicken drippings and make my own but I'm buying everything at the grocery store already cooked, the rotis-chicken, the spuds, and the gravy.

Those Bob Evans mashed potatoes are good; Home Style that Safeway sells (the original, not the garlic or loaded) are good too. And they sell a passable gravy in little round containers for $1.00. And the chicken is delicious but I just bought one last Monday and I'm tired of all that at the moment.

I'll want something crunchy so I'll probably have celery too, with cream cheese and paprika, and some radish roses and some carrot sticks. Some black olives and baby dill and sweet pickles all on a relish dish. Anything else I can think of tomorrow. Maybe some avocado dip around. All pre game appetitizers.

Then I think for the main course barbecue ribs sound good; Safeway sells some really great ones in their deli although they are expensive--$9.99--but I can make 4 meals out of one rack easily, and some crispy sweet potato french fries from a frozen bag but baked in the oven along with some roasted brussel sprouts and cherry tomatoes, and maybe a couple small frozen ears of corn zapped in the microwave a few minutes. They are really good with plenty of butter. It's a lot--maybe I'll save the corn for Monday.

Watching a football game for 3 hours in real time seems odd at the moment but by tomorrow I'll be excited. I'll probably have to watch some of the pre game show too just in case they have anything to say about San Francisco and the 49ers and maybe the plans for the new ballpark if it happens. They probably won't say anything though--there is plenty of more immediate stuff to talk about--I hope they don't overdo the brother angle. That is getting a little tiresome, although interesting.

If the 49ers are losing bad at the half I don't know if I can stand to watch the second half. If the game is exciting like last year's playoffs and superbowl were I don't know if I can stand it either. But I will try. Must be loyal to my 49ers. I like the Raven's mascot better though, and the Poe connection, although the little gold miner is cute too

Mostly I just want to remain calm and objective and not get all emotional about MYYYYYYYYYYY team having to win and then hollering and jumping up and down. It is really fun though, especially when your side actually does wins. I have wonderful memories from last century when Joe Montana, Jerry Rice and the 49ers would score time after time in the last few minutes right when it was needed, however many times, and go on to come from behind and win--I mean, who does that.

The Ravens are a pretty defensive team. I don't think they're going to run away with the game. If they win i bet it's by 3 points or less. I'm thinking the 49's win.

I'm not sure what we're having tomorrow, i do know it won't be pizza because we ordered it last Sunday and i had it leftover 2 times since then. I'm all pizza'd out.

For appetizers I'm planning on Napoleon of lobster, roasted medallions of New Zealand venison with wild rice pancakes, along with caramelized rhubarb, root veggies with blackberry sauce and an excellent California cabarnet.

In the second half we'll bring out the roast goose stuffed with bacon wrapped apple pie, with fresh fried white Yukon potatoes and crushed spinach sauteed in garlic butter.

Then maybe a diet Coke.

Today I bought a 5-pound bag of Yukon Gold potatoes--which make the best mashed potatoes--for 99 cents at--guess where--the 99 Cent Store. Do potatoes get any cheaper than that?

I like your menu better than mine. Never tried dipping celery in cream cheese and paprika. Do you just sprinkle the paprika on top or mix it in? How much paprika? I'll give it a try.

Save some ribs for me.

Sausage and peppers with good Sausage from the Salumeria is on the menu today.

Making up some Sangria now, Chianti, Triple Sec, some lemons, limes oranges a little OJ and a spoonful of sugar to make the medicine go down -- looking forward to that

Got some fresh Mozzarella and good Sopresetta and a nice beefSteak tomato t go along with it

As lng as I stay under control with the Sangria, it even qualifies as low carb -- it's a new recipe so maybe it will be bad enough that I keep it under control -- but that's not the plan!

Go .... whoever

I was just thinking....i do that sometimes. don't you think the monday after the Super Bowl should be a holiday? You got people eating and drinking, they should make it a holiday. I dunno, i guess it doesn't matter to me since i don't work, but i thought it would be cool, that or make the Super Bowl on Presidents Day weekend.

No I do not think so, and it isn't only because I do not work<grin>

Part of the special nature of the day is sharing it at work. WHo won the office pool? Who swore it was going t be a blowout, who looks like they have the worst hangover, who had the best party.

That was and is a big part of it, and would be blunted with a day off. Plus, not that many people are out so late or so drunk it ruins their next day

Of course most importantly, Monday is the 10 percent over 55 discount and my shopping day, and who needs the crowded stores.

Two weeks ago I walked into my fishmonger to get some New Zealand line caught salmon and some large Mexican shrimp. Tommy, the owner, comes up behind me, taps me on the shoulder and says quietly "Doc, try this". He hands me a slice of fish on a toothpick he just grilled. Oh! my goodness it was amazing. I asked him what it was.
"Sea Bacon" he said.
It was swordfish belly. Took it home and gave it a whirl.

We are having Sea Bacon Tacos:

grilled sliced swordfish
finely shredded cabbage
crema ( cream freche, mayo, cilantro, etc. )
s & p to taste

....and i don't remember the Super Bowls from my childhood starting so late, i have a memory of watching the Super Bowl at my parents house with the Steelers and Cowboys and it being light outside....and it was in January. Then again i don't recall all the personal story segments like the inspirational tale of the long snappers upbringing in rural Mississippi, or the punters incredible comeback from bunions.

I saw a news report last week that said Americans feast more on Super Bowl Sunday than on any other day of the year except Thanksgiving.

That kind of surprised me, but after reading this thread I believe it.

The Baron Andrew did not do the Super Bowl. Instead he watched two movies on LMN (Lifetime Movie Network), both of which he had seen before, and had Trader Joe's Movie Theater Popcorn.

"The Baron Andrew did not do the Super Bowl. Instead he watched two movies on LMN (Lifetime Movie Network), both of which he had seen before, and had Trader Joe's Movie Theater Popcorn." - Andrew

---------------

The addition of a Trader Joes and a small local Wal-mart in your local area (close to you) really increased and improved your food choices didn't it? I bet it's really a welcome addition for the people who live in that area. I'm betting it increased your access to higher quality and more nutritious food.

The people who make the decisions to put those markets in probably did a lot of research watching the area improve and become "yuppified" with the resultant increase in higher incomes in the area. When the time was right they jumped in and built those markets because they figured it could support it.
