Question - what is wrong with purchasing I bonds as a short term investment ?

At 4.66% return even with the 3 month penalty (and holding 1 year) , you receive about 3.49% return - much more than 1 year CD.

I view the I bonds as a disposable CD that I can convert anytime I have a better investment - no need to hold any longer than is profitable.
