So this tax season was a bit different for me. I got a business divorce, bought out a retiring couple of EAs, and went out completely on my own. OK - I inherited a great admin assistant with the new practice, so I'm not completely alone in the office. And the sellers are quite happy to stop by from time to time to see how things are going. One of them really wanted to do just a little bit of work, so I had them do a few returns for me when things got hectic.
So far, I'm really enjoying it. Now all of the clients are MY clients. I get to choose what work gets done next, and how much time to spend on it, and how much to charge. Trying to share those duties with a partner is difficult.
Of course, it also means that if I don't do it, it doesn't get done. So there's some extra stress as well. But it's the kind of stress I don't mind nearly as much.
I'm doing about as many individual returns as my partner and I did before, but a lot fewer business returns.
All in all, I'm very happy with the change.
