With all this talk of people leaving geology, what makes a good geologist? Maybe the following are required:

- The ability to not think twice about licking or chewing rocks [salt; mud/siltstone]

- Going to a museum/cathedral/big building, being bored by the contents, but finding the minerals and/or fossils in the paving & building stones rather fascinating.

- If in the UK, then not minding spending all day on some desolate cold, wet hill/mountain because it merely gives you an excuse for that 'warming' pub visit you were planning.

- The ability to talk in a completely dead-pan manner about things like cleavage, cross-bedding, cummingtonite, boudinage, and orogenic zones.

<and no doubt more when I think of them :-) >
