My dad just died about a month and a half ago and I am trying to help my mom figure out what to do with his retirement money. My mom will get $62,000 from his retirement that she wants to rollover to an IRA to avoid taxes. She wants to be very conservative with it and will start using the money in 2-3 years, so I was thinking a money market fund would be the best idea. Vanguard's Prime Money Market Fund (VMMXX) appears to be the best I have found so far. Is a money market fund a good idea? If so, would you recommend VMMXX or another money market fund? I greatly appreciate your help!
