What was the 16 designed for?

What was the Springfield M1903 designed for (Hint... what does the "M" stand for)? The Mauser? The Lee-Enfield? All were designed for use on the battlefield. Every one of them. So these bolt-actions are ok for hunting rifles despite being designed for war but a modern sporting rifle isn't because it was designed for war?

Also, what rifle did Lee Harvey Oswald use to assassinate Kennedy, and what was the action of that weapon? It wasn't semi-automatic. We send snipers to battlefields to this day with bolt-action rifles, should those be banned for hunting too? Don't laugh, if groups like IANSA had their way the answer is most certainly "Yes".

Tis a very slippery slope.
