To preface -- I don't want to get into a political discussion about highways, debts, blhh, blah, blah. The deed is done. If you pay taxes, you meet the income threshold and you don't owe the governemnt in back taxes or the like, then you will get a refund. So...
What are you gonna do with it?
I am gonna use my $300 to pay off the last of my debt. Bye bye, credit cards! With the money I will save on paying interest, I will save up for a rainy day.
What are your plans?

Goes directly to the e-fund, does not pass go....
This is considered "found" money in our house. All found money goes directly to the e-fund.
I just love that little bump!

Assuming I get one before I die (there will be a delay because we sent in the copy of our return that *didn't* have our signatures on it, so our return took longer to process), we'll probably take $50 to do something frivolous and dump the rest into credit card debt.

What are you gonna do with it?
Probably not anything special right away. My current high priorities are debt paydown and emergency fund buildup, but I am also out of work so everything is in limbo. If I get offered the job I interviewed for yesterday, then things will be a little better. I'll probably just stick it in my efund for now, but when things settle will likely put it toward a credit card.

We have already budgeted for a new roof for our house. The old one is 30 years old, and although not yet leaking....it's time to replace it. The $600 (assuming that indeed we *do* get that much) will pay for the dumpster we need to rent, and a few supplies towards the roof. The "savings" will just stay in our investment account, from where we're drawing the rest of the roof money.

Ann, is it a single roof, or does it have a 2nd layer?
The reason I'm asking is because my roof is more than 30 years old, and while I'm tempted to replace it, I just refuse to use the money towards it because I believe there's more life in the roof. In fact, I've had 2 estimates, and each roofer (to my surprise) was very honest and told me that while they'd love the job, they'd recommend waiting, as they believe I could get several more years yet out of it.
If this is similar to yours, you might consider putting away the money you'd be spending for awhile and let it grow a little in the meantime.
Just my 2c :-)

That is outrageous! I can't believe you would squander your money like that! My refund is going for something much more sensible:
St. Louis BLUES season tickets!

The Lowly Sharks v. the Mighty Blues...so far one apiece...Not too bad for the perpetual underdogs.
Owen Nolan lets it go from the blue line with 10 seconds left in the period...past Turek, SHARKS SCORE!!
Sorry, just reminiscing a bit.

LOL! I know you're kidding, Connie, but I'll bet you some people will blow it like that.
True story...this afternoon I had to run out to the store to pick up some bread and the lady in front of me was telling her friend how their "$600 will be used for the slot machines in Atlantic City this weekend."
Sad, huh?

Well, DW's automatic reaction to any extra money at all is "oh goody, what can I buy?"
(Mine is "oh gee, now what will she buy? and where will she put it?")
But we've talked this over and finally settled on her getting a third of it. I get to add the other $400 to our investment accounts.

I think I posted something like this just recently.
- I have no CC debt, no car loan, no major appliance loan, no consumer debt, so my $300 can't be used there.
- I have a fully funded emergency fund, so the tax refund won't be used there.
- I do have an anticipated upcoming purchase, but I have already saved up for it without the tax refund.
- My retirement accounts are fully funded. I have already saved up for next year's Roth IRA contribution, so I won't use the tax refund there.
- I had analyzed projections of paying down my mortgage vs. investing in a regular (taxable) account, and I had decided to invest in a taxable account because, over the long run, the projections indicate I have a better chance of coming out ahead investing. So this $300 will get invested in one or more of the mutual funds I hold, according to my investment strategy.
