Greetings, I am starting a new thread in hopes of highlighting this question: Will the real HSA contribution deadline please stand up?In the thread on this board, about a week ago, titled Unemployed tax planning by yacmanhttp://boards.fool.com/Message.asp?mid=26154390the question arose about timelines and deadlines for making an HSA contribution. TMFPMarti answered in post http://boards.fool.com/Message.asp?mid=26154557 as follows:Another question regarding my HSA. Can I contribute to this account for 2007 as late as April 15th next year, or do I have to mail in a check before December 31st?No extended time for this one.And then aj485 followed up with her reply in post http://boards.fool.com/Message.asp?mid=26154562 :Another question regarding my HSA. Can I contribute to this account for 2007 as late as April 15th next year, or do I have to mail in a check before December 31st?HSA contributions must be made during the calendar year. You do not have until April 15 of the following year to fund them. Here is my question/concern: I was looking over Pub 969 (still 2006 in the IRS website) and on page 6, I find the following information:When To Contribute You can make contributions to your HSA for 2006 until April 17, 2007.Now, I am aware this is the 2006 publication but I did not see anything in the “Changes for 2007” section that suggested that the contribution deadline was 12/31 of the current year rather than tax day of the following year (as it is for IRA’s for instance). So I am hoping for the best in that it would be great if the answer really were a 4/15/08 deadline for 2007 HSA contributions rather than a 12/31/07 deadline. Can anyone elaborate further? Thanks deeply for your quick replies.xraymd
