When didn't extreme housing troughs and peaks affect our economy and specifically the stock market?

Well, of course, perhaps it already has, we just don't know what the effect has been yet, do we? Although I agree it will continue to do so.

MTH is trading at 17.5x 07 eps and around 15-16x 2008 eps. So, not cheap.
They have mkt cap of around $890m and debt of $733m, so 42% debt to cap - don't know if you'd call that 'healthy' or not. Average for the industry is slightly lower. Their Net Income margin is about 40% lower than the other builders as well.

Timing is everything.
