when French speaking countries give French the boot, and put in English, you know that the end is near for the French language outside of France.....the dominoes will fall one by one. I think part of the reason for this is that L'Académie française, France's official government body defining the French language, is dedicated to making sure that the entire French-speaking world speaks Parisian French with minimal new (post-1800) importation from other languages and *no* importation from English.Quebec also has several agencies with a similar mission, but they do not formally cooperate with L'Académie française .Meanwhile the Real Academia Española, Spain's equivalent body for the Castillan language, is dedicated to the notion that all the many national and regional dialects of Spanish should remain mutually comprehensible. It does not condemn change or importations, and does not elevate any particular regionalism above others. The Real Academia is just one of more than 20 national Spanish-language academies from around the world that formally cooperate in the Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española.
