When I think of 2828 and his Cubbies, I think of the old Warren Zevon song Poor, Pitiful Me. The songs character is so upset he lays himself down on the rail tracks but soon realizes that the train doesn't come through anymore. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aahtK6W7l78I'm not sure if any of the other lyrics apply to Slick Willie sitting in the audience with his Mrs next to him.<g>Back to baseball. Plain vanilla losing can be tough. However, losing when you steal defeat from the jaws of victory does something to your mental character. Red Sox fans can joke about 1986 these days because they hoisted two World Series championships up over the last decade. Unfortunately, there were a lot of oldtimers who lived to see 1986 but did not live to see 2004 and 2007. Many fathers woke up their kids in 1986 so they could witness history. Well in a weird Twilight Zone way they did witness history, just a very twisted version of it via Bill Buckner. Those who have a decent baseball knowledge may remember that Buckner came to the Sox after spending a number of years toiling at Wrigley Field for the Cubs. The Cubs have also had some horror shows in the years where the fates taunted them by allowing them to make it to the post season. Here is a summary of 1984 when the Cubs wond their division and then won the first two games of the five game LCS. The rest too is history. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_National_League_Championsh...Now I don't know if 2828 uses the Blackhawks Stanley Cup win to offsset his Cubbies woes. Personally, I don't think that works unless one wants to insert it to change the subject. I wonder what percentage of Blackhawk fans are Cubs fans and how many are White Sox fans? I don't think you can be like Hilary Clinton was back in 2000 when she tried to get away with saying "I like the Mets And the Yankees". That didn't fly, much like anyone saying "I like the Cubs And the White Sox".Anyway, the Cubs are at least tied for first place today. FWIW, so are the Mets. And the newest addition to the American League, the Houston Astros held on to first place all by themselves for the first 24 hours of the season. Go figure.BG
