When I was marathon training and eating a mostly vegetarian diet, I found it easy to get caught up in soy milk, soy-based nutrition bars, soy burgers, soy yogurt, soy cheese, soy protein isolates in cereals, soy protein powder shakes and the like.

Uh, soy milk does not have soy protein isolates. Soy milk is, in fact, a precursor to tofu, so it always makes me scratch my head when people recommend tofu as less processed than soy milk. Soy milk is just soaked soy beans, drained, blended with fresh water, and then strained of solids. Of course there are soy milks on the market that have other ingredients, but those are not necessary in soy milk.

Tofu then takes soy milk, adds a coagulant, and strains like cheese to retain the solids formed.

Soy yogurt is just soy milk cooked at a low temp with bacteria, the same way dairy yogurt is made.

There are soy protein isolates in all sorts of processed foods. Things like the "beef" in taco bell beef items are comprised of a large proportion of soy protein isolates.

If you want to avoid soy protein isolates what you need to do is avoid most processed food, and read ingredients.
