when i was that age, i didn't think *i* would be around to retire.....I don't know how many don't think they will be around to retire, but it seems like a lot of them are not thinking of retirement at all. Neither did I at that point in my career. When I was a young engineer, I actually loved working and thought I would want to work forever. The thing that saved my retirement from a lack of early planning is the same thing that saves a lot of other engineer's retirement. We tend to be frugal while making more money than we could spend. So at least some investments are piling up.
