When our brain was developing, we weren't at a point that cognition was capable of unbiased thought. That's the bulk of the last six million years of human brain development from an evolutionary standpoint, not the last 100 years. Not even the last 200K years.

Again apologize for being dense. What biased thought was occurring during the last 6 million years?

You start with an erroneous "fact", that human's have universally believed an intelligent creator created the universe for most of our history, and then conclude that we wouldn't believe that if it weren't true.

I'll try to clarify that again. I am talking about human cultural history. My claim is that as far back as we can see with any confidence, the great majority of human cultures had creation myths involving sentient creators. Don't think that is erroneous but am no expert in this area. And I don't think my conclusion was nearly so strong as you indicated. I'll reword it to make it hopefully clearer. My assertion is that very successful memes will tend to be those that provide a benefit to a person or culture. These will tend to be memes that accurately reflect the real world. Doesn't have to be, but one would think it more likely.

You are the one suggesting that anthropomorphizing nature was once a good thing to do even though it provides an inaccurate description of nature. That seems a bit tough to defend.
