Where else would one start, with something they don't know and understand?

With an open mind unbiased by erroneous preconceptions?

We start there, and identify differences and move to a better understanding, but we start with the humanization of other life and nature.

You've lost me. What is the benefit of anthropomorphizing nature when nature is not anthropomorphic? One would think a culture that believes floods are caused by unfavorable weather patterns would have an advantage over those that put the blame on insufficient virgin sacrifices to the thunder god.

If you want to understand why we have particular behaviors and cognitive processes you have to consider the evolution of our species.

Well that's what I am asking. Why did we evolve these tendencies for erroneous preconceptions of nature? I don't think you've made a convincing utility argument for why it is good to be deceived.
