While according to most recent surveys, more than 80% of the US considers themsevles Christian, there are many citizens who feel ostracized by their leader using this language.I'm not a christian. And I wasn't offended by the President's use of Psalm 23, although I am frequently offended by the President (but that's another board). I would have been offended had he tried to quote the Q'uran (sp?), or the Talmud, or the holy books of a religion he does not embrace as his own. While I did not find his use of the Psalm particularly soothing, at least he remained true to his own beliefs. He is a christian. Because I'm curious as to why it is so difficult for a Catholic to be a leader. Or a Jew. Or anyone not of a Protestant background. And, while I am not offended by the fact that all of the President's have been White Protestant Men, with the exception of the one white Catholic Man, I am offended that a presidential candidate's gender, religion, or race is an issue at all.ataxwitch
