While natural gas is certainly a cleaner fuel than oil or coal, it still puts a lot of carbon dioxide and other nasty things into our environment. I would consider it only a stepping stone to real clean technologies like wind, solar, etc.

Also, just like oil, there is a limited amount of natural gas in the ground. We certainly don't seem to approaching that, but at some point we will have to move to renewable sources of energy completely. And remember the quote from the Saudi oil minister: "The stone age didn't end because we ran out of stones."
