While the wife sat home all day (children grown), their apartment was subsidized (Section 8), they were on food stamps and got a fat check from the government every year (earned income credit).

When I worked for HR Block I did one year in the slums of Saginaw. The clients knew exactly how much to make to max out the EIC. You'd wanna tell them, "If you just applied yourself as much to work as you did in scamming the system, you'd be rich!!!"

One time I did taxwe for one fellow about 28. When I told him about the amount of EIC he was going to get he replied "Is that all?" I told him that not only was he getting all of the money withheld in his taxes, but $2500 of his neighbor's money too. I asked him how much was enough. I got counselled over that one.
