Why are seniors not getting married or they are getting divorced prior to retirement?

There are all sorts of well-known reasons, as you know already, that influence retired people not to marry. They include

• Since men die an average of seven years younger than women, there is a shortage of men to marry. Something like 44% of unmarried women past 65 are widows.

• If a person has been injured financially and emotionally in an earlier divorce, that person is likely to be less able and less willing to incur the responsibilities of marriage.

• One of the primary reasons for marriage -- the intent to procreate -- is missing or weak.

• Grown children may discourage remarriage, seeing the threat to their inheritance as more important than their parent's happiness.

• There can be financial penalties, including reduced social security benefits or loss of alimony.
