Why is it that when a team loaded with talent woefully underperforms, it gets characterized as a turnaround when they begin playing to their potential?

I'm not sure how anyone could say the Vikings were "loaded with talent." Peterson is the only true star they had and even before he was hurt he couldn't make up the difference. Harvin could be great but he's missed as many games as he's played. They have no other receivers who are more than average. The defensive secondary last year was abysmal. The only reason they're better this year is Harrison Smith and they got Chris Cook back. Winfield is a special player but he's a bit long in the tooth.

Yes, Allen and Williams are both Pro Bowlers and Robison came on last year but their linebackers are average with the exception of Greenway.

Please correct me if you believe otherwise.
