Why we subsidize flood insurance is a different question, of course....

I've been asking that for years. We absolutely shouldn't. It encourages folks to build in places they shouldn't (often rich people, since who else can afford beach-front property).

If you can afford to purchase the insurance yourself, fine. Go for it. If not, well you pays your money and you takes your chances.

I'd like to see subsidized flood insurance phased-out over the next few years (but it won't happen).
