Are you ready for the "STEPS"?...

1. Start|Run|Sysedit<enter> - This will bring many different files to edit. The only file you need to edit is SYSTEM.INI. All the other files can be closed.

2. Find the line that begins with [vcache] and add the following two lines right after... and save/close the file.

This completes part #1...

3. RIGHT click on My Computer and goto Properties.

4. Click on the Performance tab at the top, and the Virtual Memory (VM) button.

5. Click on "Let me specify my own virtual memory settings" and put a specific number in both the MIN and MAX fields. Click OK to save the settings. Restart the machine.

This number will have two variables that will affect it... 1) the amount of TOTAL RAM in the machine. 2) the amount of AVAILABLE hardrive space. The following #'s are only suggestions...

RAM/Avail Drive -- VCache/VM
32M/512Mb -- 4000/350Mb
32M/1Gb -- 4000/450Mb
64M/1Gb -- 8000/450Mb
64M/1.5Gb -- 8000/500Mb
96M/2Gb+ -- 12000/500Mb
128M/2Gb+ -- 24000/500Mb
256M/2Gb+ -- 36000/500Mb

Please note that these #'s are only suggestions and pending what type of applications you choose to run (and how many windows you have open) may affect that amount of Virtual Memory you may need to assign. If the error message ever pops, "out of memory", up the amount of VM assigned.

Please be as specific as you can with any questions you may have.
