Hi. Just bought my first house and am thinking about what needs to be done to prepare it for the cold new jersey winter. Because i'm a novice, i have no idea what one does to winterize a house. Here's my checklist so far:

- Clean gutters (to prevent ice dams)
- Have furnace serviced
- Insulate water pipe that leads to exterior faucet
- Buy salt, shovel and back brace
- Open blocked vent in attic for ventilation
- Buy firewood and candles

This seems short. what am i missing? Would also appreciate resource tips on where to find regular home maintenance advice (e.g., web, books, etc.)
