I'm again being smitten by problems with Word. A few weeks ago I asked this board for help (when I clicked on it in programs, the panel appeared on the monitor but did not open and the hour glass icon remained on the screen). I tried the various tips given, none of which, sadly, much helped but found a day or so later that the problem had miraculously cleared itself.
Yesterday the problem with Word re-emerged, much to my dismay.
I have again updated my virus checker and swept the system but it reports that no viruses were found.
Yesterday, for a brief moment, the message appeared on the screen that there was "insufficient memory or disk space to open Word 9". This then vanished, and the menacing message that I have tried to conduct an "illegal operation" appeared, slight grunching noises were heard at the back of the tower and I could not close down using control-alt-delete. I had to switch off at the mains.
I cannot understand the brief message about memory, since I understand that Word draws whatever it needs, and I am nowhere near capacity (only 25% has been used).
If anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful.
