The only amenity I received for this "First Class" upgrade was a wider seat. I was not allowed to wait for my flight in the USAIR lounge. Onboard there was no food served, no movies shown and the flight attendants pretty much ignored the first class passengers.

In contrast, while sitting in Coach class on the South African Airline flight, I experienced delightful service---meals, drinks, and movies at no additional charge.

I had the same experience last month on a Jet Airways (Indian airline) flight from JFK to Brussels. I had a dirt cheap economy-class ticket, but they were flying an Airbus A330 with wide seats and lots of legroom in economy class. Until I walked to the rear of the plane and saw the seats were the same back there, I thought they'd given me a free upgrade to Business Class.
