Wouldnt we then have a candidate that was elected because he appealed to citizens in highly poplulated areas..rather than the majority of the country?

Wouldn't those citizens in the highly populated areas be the majority of the country?
10 million and 1 people in CA vs 10 million in the other 49 states. All part of the same country but the majority of the people in the country live in CA.
