I'm not into gum, but I like this idea!

Another unusual practice by Wrigley is the Extra Dividend that they pay each year. Their aim is to pay out approximately 50% of per-share earnings to shareholders. So, for example, they'll pay a 22-cent dividend on the 1st of Feb/May/Aug/Nov...a total of 88 cents per share. Then, if they were to earn $2.66 per share for '99, they'd aim to pay out half ($1.33) and so would pay a Dec. 15th Extra Dividend of about 45 cents per share...about double the quarterly amounts, and arriving, not coincidentally, about the same time as the gum. Wrigley has now paid higher dividends for 18 consecutive years.
