In previous two presidential elections Iranians voted more than 2:1 for the reformist Mohammed Khatami. That did not do much good so change in voting direction was not entirely unexpected. Anyway, ... the fact is that Iran is big - ~69 million, it is next to Iraq, and its long-standing confrontation with U.S. has been enhanced by Warshington's ever rising war rhetoric. There may have been some chicanery during the main election, ... true, but the run-off election was decisive: ~17 million votes for Ahmadinejad and ~10 million for Rafsanjani. It is not possible to fix that many ballots. Ask Diebold's O'Dell if you don't believe me. fwiw.C.
