Yeah, after anybody who was against him was disqualified from running.

Look, there is no point in pretending that Ahmadinejad did not really win. In previous two presidential elections Iranians voted more than 2:1 for the reformist Mohammed Khatami. That did not do much good so change in voting direction was not entirely unexpected.

Anyway, ... the fact is that Iran is big - ~69 million, it is next to Iraq, and its long-standing confrontation with U.S. has been enhanced by Warshington's ever rising war rhetoric. There may have been some chicanery during the main election, ... true, but the run-off election was decisive: ~17 million votes for Ahmadinejad and ~10 million for Rafsanjani. It is not possible to fix that many ballots. Ask Diebold's O'Dell if you don't believe me. fwiw.
