Kaydon Corp. (KDN) reported third-quarter net income of $17.6 million, or 55 cents a share, compared with earnings a year earlier of $37.2 million, or $1.12 a share.

Earnings for the third quarter of 2005 included discontinued operations of $25.5 million, or 74 cents a share. On a continuing operations basis, earnings in the third quarter of 2005 were 38 cents a share.

Sales in the third quarter rose to $99.7 million from $85.9 million a year earlier.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call estimated Kaydon would earn 50 cents a share in the third quarter.

Kaydon said its "current order backlog and incoming order flow make us highly confident that we will achieve record annual sales in 2006. Looking beyond the fourth quarter, we are confident that Kaydon will continue its sales and earnings growth in 2007."
