You can also try calling help on the config script and see if it allows you to specify where you want the libs to be installed. try ./configure --help and see if it gives you an option to set --library_path=foo ( which would allow you to just toss the libs you are making in to the standard location for your system ). If that isn't provided, you can also just hack the make file to have it install libs in a more system-sane place. Sorry you can't get packages for your distro ( or can you? ). Doesn't much matter if they are debs or rpms or something else, it just makes everything easy.best,dan
