You CAN get a car with bad credit. The only problems I see is high interest and requiring a good sized down payment.

I co-signed on an auto loan for my mother (which was completely stupid of me!) and because she's been making the payments on time for over a year (plus a lot of icky stuff fell off her report the past two years), her credit score is improving.

Since you said you are already saving the down, what you really need to do is figure out how much you will be paying each month in car payment and increased insurance costs, and start putting that aside like you are making payments. Once it's in the account, it's gone. If you figure $300-350 a month in payment and insurance, in 6 months time, you will have between $1800 and $2100 saved. Plus, you will probably be getting a sizable tax return in the form of EIC if you make less than $13 an hour, right?

So, you will easily have a few thousand to put down in February or March, provided you file your taxes early in the year.
