You can set up a roth directly with any mutual fund. Find a fund you like and contact them directly. They will lead you thru the process. If you need help in choosing a mutual fund, consult the Morningstar reports. It sounds like your credit union is ripping you off. 4% is pretty poor and I bet they have your money earning more than that and you only get 4%. Not a good deal. For that %, you might as well have your money in a safe, no-risk CD.
