You can try if you can get an Aspire Visa card. They have the highest interest rates and therefore accept high risk customers or people with no credit history. Aspire doesn´t report your account to the credit rating agencies (at least in my case, they didn´t) and this won´t help you build the credit history that you want. American Express is usually easier to deal with for nonresident aliens than Citibank. Talk to them and explain your situation

Before you do this check out my message at http://fireboards.fool.com/Message.asp?mid=14211637 titled "Giving new meaning to predatory." This post specifically deals with the consequences of Aspire's predatory rates. Also, if they don't report to the credit reporting agencies, it won't help you. Rumor is that many companies don't report to the CRA's unless you become late on your payments. They claim they do this to prevent other companies from stealing their customers; in reality they are doing this by making your credit look worse than it is (by only reporting customers with payment problems).

I personally don't think that company would be worth the risk.
