You guys have my sympathy in this. There isn't however, a way to fix it without getting rid of FPP (First Past the Post) ballots. Those make your vote for anyone but the person most likely to be able to beat the person you like the least, a wasted vote. Which logically leads to an effective limit of two parties, no matter how many actually may be out there. Steve outlined the quandary this leads to pretty well... and no, I don't know how to resolve it. The states set the rules, and for them the most effective way to MAXIMIZE their power in the electoral college is FPP. It is broken. Was broken when it was designed. The Republican Party has to split off from the whackjobs to survive. Won't be easy, but I DO hope that you-all manage it. Balance isn't optional if one is to maintain the freedom of the society... and that could definitely be lost if the "real" Republican Party loses its way.
