You have to realize that the world economic system (banking, lending, etc.) is a fairy castle built in the air.

Money itself is a thing of the mind. Something only has value if people believe it has value. If we have to go back to a barter economy ("2 bushels of wheat for a pair of shoes"), then even gold will have no value - after all, you can't eat gold.

Our whole economic system is based on belief. If that belief falters, then you better stock up on canned goods and ammunition.
