You know what's really progress? You used to pay that fee every month and call it "the cost of banking." (BTDTGTTS)

Thanks, Tanaquil. This is easy to forget. It IS progress.

I sympathize!
And this is much appreciated :)

I really hate getting caught by those little things, to the point where I've started to structure my accounts to avoid even the possibility of me messing up.

Have you considered looking a little bit further into your bank's options?

This is the point I am hoping to get to - where there's not even a slight chance it will happen. While I was on the phone with the bank rep. I asked about other options. The option I was told about had a $3 month flat fee, with a 50c fee per check after 8 checks. I don't write up to 8 checks/mo. usually, but I also don't want to pay $36/yr to maintain an account. I love this bank for a lot of different reasons, but I may need to consider other banks that have account features that will help me with this.
