You may also want to consider applying to be a patent examiner. They are always looking for people with a technical background to examine patent applications. Usually that leads to a position in patent law, either with a law degree or as a patent agent.

But it is also a clever way to be very familiar with who is patenting what, their latest technology and tends. I would think that training and background would be of value to a specialist evaluating investments.
