You may want to know about liens and judgements on this home, as a buyer, prior to HUD statement. This can really screw up the home buying process.

I believe the HUD statement was set up to protect both buyers and sellers nationwide so they know what thier expenses are. Those numbers to the side of the credits and debits are consistant from state to state. You wisely chose not going around the HUD statement and paying additional amounts. If these amounts are material they could be seen by your mortgage company as fraud.

I like to see both sides of the transaction. That way you can see what junk fees ie, Escrow Fee, Copies and Document preparation were for the seller. If your Escrow Fee is higher than the seller you may be able to get them to reduce it. If you don't see this you can't object. High Fees at closing can be objected to and may even be lowered in Texas.
